Spurs demand loyalty from Berbatov

Tottenham are demanding a show of loyalty from Manchester United target Dimitar Berbatov.

A highly-placed Tottenham source told the News of the World: "Daniel Levy has made it abundantly clear to everyone that Berbatov is going nowhere.

"He's looking for Dimi to accept that fact - and quickly.

"And he's looking for a positive reaction. Dimi needs to remember that it was Spurs who gave him his first chance in the big time.

"He needs to remember that he's only 18 months into a four-year contract and that Tottenham have a two-year option after that.

"And he needs to realise that the club has just posted a stonking set of financial results.

"So Tottenham do not need to sell him anyway, not at any price.

"They are the solid facts amid all of this speculation and gossip and people would do well to remember that, especially Dimi.

"He's not for sale, he won't be sold. He's staying put right here at Tottenham. So he'd be wise to accept that situation and deal with it.

"The sooner he does that, the sooner he will realise that his best course of action is to show some loyalty to the club that gave him his big chance in the first place."

Spurs believe Berbatov's head has been turned by his agent, Emil Dantchev.

Last week Dantchev announced Berbatov would be interested in a move to a 'big club' that matched his ambitions. And Berbatov has confessed to pals that Manchester United would be his dream destination.

But our Spurs source added: "Our ambitions as a club are exactly the same as Berbatov's ambitions. We want to win trophies, compete for the title and enjoy regular Champions League football.

"But you don't do that by selling your best players. You do that by continually building a better squad, by holding on to your best assets and adding new talent to supplement and strengthen what you already have and so enhance your chances.

"That is why Tottenham will not be selling any of their senior stars this winter.

"But Spurs will be striving to strengthen in important areas to drive the club on."
