Spurs chairman Levy releases funds to land Middlesbrough's Downing

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is ready to make £15 million available for manager Harry Redknapp to land Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing.

The Daily Mail says England winger Downing, who signed an improved deal at The Riverside only last February, is understood to be extremely keen to be given the opportunity to speak to Spurs.

Landing Downing will finally end Tottenham's long pursuit of a left-sided player to bring balance to their midfield.
