Spurs boss Redknapp: England have players to win World Cup

England have the players to win the World Cup next year, says Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp.

In his column for The Sun, Redknapp wrote: "We have a group of players which cannot be bettered by anyone.

"We hear a lot about Spain, the European champions, but they do not have any better defenders than John Terry and Rio Ferdinand.

"England can match any country in the world and the team is led by a top-class manager in Fabio Capello. This is a much better, much more balanced, much more experienced squad than the one which went to Germany in 2006.

"It has great character, it has a lot of players who have won the Champions League. It has leaders in Terry, it has pace and energy in Theo Walcott, Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe.

"Back in 2006 the squad was short of forwards, but look at the armoury now. Peter Crouch is an enigma to foreign defenders. There is Defoe, Wayne Rooney and big, revitalised Emile Heskey.

"I see no reason why we can't go all the way and be world champions like we were in 1966 when Bobby Moore lifted the Jules Rimet trophy at Wembley."
