Spurs boss Pochettino on Real Madrid row: It was English humour!

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has sought to diffuse any tension with Real Madrid after comments last week.

Pochettino insists he was only joking when claiming Real president Florentino Perez rejected their request to use the sleeping quarters at the club's training complex.

He said at the time: "We trained in Valdebebas but we did not sleep there. We asked, but Florentino did not allow us.

"He told me: 'If you want to coach Madrid, you can sleep there ...'."

Real reacted with an official statement, denying Pochettino's claims.

And the Argentine clarified with Okdiario: "I already did what I had to do and my attention now is on winning the Champions League. It was a chat under one circumstance ... a little English humour that I have acquired and in Spain it is difficult to understand, I did not understand either. I am very calm with everything I have done."

Pochettino also remarked: "The current president of Real Madrid must be one of the best presidents in the history of Spanish football, if not the best, with everything he has done and everything he has won. Real Madrid seems to me an institution, if it is not number one ... I have no problem with Real Madrid and the only thing I regret is that a coffee talk has derived into this.

"It is my sadness that such a thing has generated a bad interpretation and some kind of problem. Each one is responsible for what he does and what he says, the problem is mine because I said something I should not have said, but I did not do it with bad intention."
