Sporting Lisbon chief Costinha has ruled out moving for Valencia midfielder Hugo Viana.

The former Newcastle United reject has been linked with Sporting after a successful spell on-loan at Braga last season.

"Hugo Viana will not be one of our reinforcements, Sporting are preparing their future with balance and within our current reality," said Costinha.

"Besides, we will never discuss contracts or negotiate over players through the media, nor is it our policy to compare salaries or other kinds of contractual conditions.

"The players are not all the same, Hugo Viana knows what he wants for his life, Sporting know what we want for our squad.

"We made an offer for the player but Hugo Viana did not want to give up on what he was earning at Valencia, so he will not be a target for Sporting."
