Sporting Kansas City head coach Peter Vermes has confirmed that the club is still assessing whether or not to offer a contract to Marcel de Jong.
The 28-year old Canada international is a free agent after leaving German club FC Augsburg at the end of January and has recently been trialling with SKC ahead as they prepare for the 2015 MLS season.
Former Roda JC left-back de Jong got some crucial minutes in the weekend's 3-2 Desert Diamond Cup win over Seattle Sounders which prompted Vermes to further ponder a move for his services.
"He's got a lot of interesting qualities as a player, no doubt," Vermes told reporters from Tucson.
"He's very good on the ball and reads the game really well. He's an excellent passer out of the back, as well. It was solid play on his side.
"It's something (a contract) that we're assessing."
