Spanish government hands Real Madrid fresh headache over Ronaldo contract

Spain's new tax laws have given Real Madrid president Florentino Perez a new headache over his plans to extend Cristiano Ronaldo's contract.

El Economista says with the tax on salaries of star players like Ronaldo rising from 25 per cent to 52 per cent, Real face shelling out a staggering €155 million to meet the player's demands of a new five-year deal worth around €16 million-a-year.

Over the next five seasons, Ronaldo will expect €75 million to go into his coffers, with another €82 million due Spain's Treasury.
