Spalletti upset with Roma collapse

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti was left frustrated after their 3-3 draw with Austria Vienna in the Europa League.

Roma let slip a 3-1 lead as the Austrians fought back.

“Unfortunately at times we take it a bit easy and are a metre slower, so when you meet opponents who are determined, you pay for that," the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“I saw tonight it was not a bad performance, because we were in control and could've scored more goals.

“The performance was there. Once we felt in control, we relaxed too much and that extra metre makes a big difference. If you follow the ball to the by-line and make sure it goes out, you don't allow these goals.

“We've got to work harder and step on it at all times. There's nothing more to do. When we do something good, we immediately rest on our laurels and start to assume we've done enough.

“This time I felt I made the right substitutions. I introduced attacking players like Mohamed Salah and Edin Dzeko, sending the signal we were still going forward in this game.

Stephan El Shaarawy and Alessandro Florenzi asked to be substituted, as they were tired. I removed Juan Iturbe because I saw Vienna were pressuring us down that flank and in fact it's where the goal came from.

“We still conceded these two goals in two minutes and made life difficult for ourselves. I was absolutely not trying to send a signal with my changes that the game was over.

“On the third goal, we didn't track back properly. There was a gap and they made the most of it."
