Spalletti delighted as weakened Roma win at Genoa

Roma were grateful to Christian Panucci for his injury-time winner in last night's 1-0 victory at Genoa.

Panucci snatched his stoppage-time winner at Marassi just a week after securing Italy's Euro 2008 qualification in Glasgow in similar fashion.

"It was a difficult game, but we deserved to win. Roma had more chances than Genoa. Our mentality is always to look for the best possible result, whether home or away," said Roma coach Luciano Spalletti.

"We have players who can quite happily replace the first choices. Instead of harping on about absentees, why not give credit to those who are here?

"We won with ability, aggression, strength - things we don't always see in this team and that is why I want to compliment the squad." Genoa were furious with the final result, having lost out in the final minute to a Panucci header.

"It was an undeserved defeat," said coach Gianpiero Gasperini. "It's not just because we conceded so late, but the overall performance was good. It is a result that leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.

"We managed to contain a good 20 set-pieces during the match, but unfortunately got distracted on the last one."
