Former Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate is favourite for the new technical director's role created by the FA.

Southgate, who currently has a part-time role as the FA's head of elite development, is the obvious candidate for the role.

West Bromwich Albion technical chief Dan Ashworth is also under consideration.
