Southgate: Tottenham's Kane would benefit from playing for England U21s

England manager Gareth Southgate says Harry Kane's development will be aided by participating in the upcoming U21 European Championship.

Kane earned a call-up to the senior England squad recently and managed to make a lasting impression by scoring just moments after coming on during the Three Lions' 4-0 victory over Lithuania on Friday.

Despite making such an impact on the senior side though, England U21 manager Gareth Southgate has stated that the 21-year old will participate in the U21 Euro2015 in the Czech Republic later this year and added that the experience will be beneficial in the development of the Spurs ace.

Southgate said: "Roy Hodgson and I know that the seniors are in a good group position and he feels that the experience of going to the Czech Republic in the summer will be more beneficial to Harry than the two games he has got. That is absolutely the case regardless of his displays between now and then.

"We are not short of good players in the seniors, but understandably for Harry to be there this time, against Lithuania, was merited.

"We still feel we can give the players the best possible preparation to go into the seniors and achieve success if they have got the experience of the European Under-21 Championships behind them in the summer. That is still the case with Harry."
