Southgate ready to make Middlesbrough transfer plans

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate admits he's keen to strengthen his squad in the summer.

"We haven't really had discussions about what we've got to spend, we tend to take a lot of what we need and who we want and then see if we can do it," he said on Setanta Sports News. "If we're not able to do it we look at other alternatives.

"I'm not concerned how much money I have, if I'm told there is no money I'll go and get the best free transfers on offer. But I'm sure there will be something to spend, although I'm glad I don't know the fee because if I said we had £20 million suddenly every player would go up in price.

"We know where we need to strengthen. We're 14th at the moment which suggests to me there is plenty of room for improvement."
