Southampton saw off a late bid from Tottenham to wreck their deal for Pablo Daniel Osvaldo.
Saints broke their transfer record to sign Osvaldo from AS Roma on Sunday.
The Daily Mail says Spurs failed on Sunday night to sign Osvaldo from Roma because he had already agreed terms with Southampton.
Tottenham technical chief Franco Baldini had made the late attempt, but his close relationship with his former club wasn't enough to swing the deal in their favour.
