Southampton striker Lambert: I could handle World Cup penalty shootout

Southampton striker Ricki Lambert insists he could handle a World Cup penalty shootout.

Lambert, just like Saints great Matthew Le Tissier, has scored his last 33 penalties and is yet to miss from the spot since joining the south-coast club in 2009.

The 31-year-old is on course to be included in the England squad for Brazil after scoring six goals for club and country since the start of the season.

Should he make the plane, he would have no qualms about taking a penalty.

"Obviously if I got that chance I would be confident of scoring," said Lambert, who has a pretty straightforward technique when it comes to spot-kicks.

"It is not rocket science to be honest. I just pick a corner and hit it as hard as I can and just be confident.

"It is working pretty well."
