Southampton midfielder Nathan Redmond felt victory at Brighton was crucial.
Redmond's goal helped Southampton seal their first Premier League points of the season.
“It's massive, massive. I think after the start we had and coming up a little bit short last week, I think it was vital that we got three points. Albeit, they had a man sent off but we still needed to take care of the job," Redmond begin.
“I think we needed to be resilient. They've got some powerful boys up top and at the back so we needed to keep them quiet and they've got some tidy players. It was a very good game and despite them going to ten men they still tried to play football.
“You have to say fair play to them but at the same time we had to be intelligent, be smart and break them down as the game went on."
