Southampton matchwinner Boufal hits out at Pellegrino

Southampton matchwinner Sofiane Boufal hit out at manager Mauricio Pellegrino after victory over West Brom.

The substitute ran fully 70 yards from inside his own half and left three defenders on their backsides - two of whom had collided with each other - before sliding the ball home for a truly memorable strike.

Boufal sent a message to Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino after scoring the only goal of the game.

He told BT Sport 1: "I am so angry to stay on the bench but the most important thing is to show the manager on the pitch I can play with this team."

He added: "It's very special (to score). The most important (thing) is we take the three points. I am so happy with the result because we win."

Southampton midfielder Steven Davis paid tribute to Boufal's goal.

He said: "It was a great piece of magic from this man to get the winner."

Pellegrino was diplomatic when asked about Boufal's reaction after scoring the goal.

The Southampton manager said: "I have a group of players and most of them can play, a lot of them deserve to play but the manager has to choose 11.

"It's a reaction when someone is outside (the team) and challenging to be there in the 11. I am happy with the goal, that's it."
