Southampton hero Francis Benali says they'll be gutted to have lost against Europa League opponents Inter Milan.

The Saints dominated large spells of their Group K match on Thursday evening but were made to rue a number of missed chances as Antonio Candreva fired the Italians to a 1-0 win at the San Siro.

"Their finishing should have been better, they should have been a goal or two up in the first 45 minutes," Benali told BT Sport.

"There were some good chances. They will be kicking themselves all the way home. I'm amazed at how they never scored. They've come away with absolutely nothing tonight.

"They'll be bitterly disappointed, I'm almost lost for words. [Samir] Handanovic made some great saves but I'm amazed they didn't get at least one goal. They've missed a great chance to take a strong hold of the top of the group."
