Southampton great Peter Shilton has questioned Alex McCarthy's prospects should he move to Liverpool.
Because of his international pedigree, Shilton thinks McCarthy will have to choose his next side carefully if he is to depart this summer.
He told the Daily Echo: “It would have to be the right move for him.
“The manager has obviously got his ideas about who he prefers, and I know Gunn is up and coming and is promising.
“He would be one for the future as well as the present.
“I would think McCarthy and (Fraser) Forster are the ideal ones to try and move on.
“Alex played regularly and got himself into the England squad. The ideal thing is to get playing regularly again."
