Southampton goalscorer Redmond proud of Chelsea shock

Southampton goalscorer Nathan Redmond was delighted with their stunning 2-0 win at Chelsea.

Recording back-to-back wins, Michael Obafemi's first league goal of the campaign was the difference between the two sides at the break.

Putting on a confident display, Redmond ensured all three points would be heading back to Hampshire with a little over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining to leave the winger full of praise for his team-mates.

“Over the festive period it's always important to win games, but we earned the right to play and didn't give up the fight for 90 minutes and took our chances.

“We always believed but we had to fight. The lads at the back, Prowsey [James Ward-Prowse] in midfield winning challenges, Stu [Stuart Armstrong], myself and Ché [Adams] worked unbelievably hard.

“Michael [Obafemi] worked unbelievably hard as well so it was a great team performance that epitomised the squad effort as well.

“Everybody could see we worked really, really hard in that game. To go 1-0 up it was always going to be hard to maintain the lead but to get another one to close the game was good timing."
