Southampton fullback Walker-Peters on England snub: I just need to play better

Southampton fullback Kyle Walker-Peters says he'll work harder after his latest England snub.

Walker-Peters, who made his England debut in March in friendlies versus Switzerland and Ivory Coast at Wembley Stadium, missed out on the group with the likes of Luke Shaw called.

“Tough squad to get into, especially in my position as a full-back. There's a lot of top players so my main focus is playing well here," the former Tottenham Hotspur defender said.

At right-back, Walker-Peters faces competition from Reece James, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker – but many feel he could have usurped Shaw and Ben Chilwell on the left.

However, he is yet to play there for Saints this season due to Tino Livramento's long-term ACL injury.

“The better I play here (at Saints) the more chance I have of getting into the England squad," Walker-Peters added.

“But at Aston Villa (during 1-0 defeat on Friday) it wasn't good enough for many of us including myself so a lot of improvements to be made."
