Southampton are reportedly preparing to table an £8million offer for Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk.

The Daily Mail is reporting Saints boss Ronald Koeman is hopeful a deal can be finalised within the next 48 hours.

Celtic were knocked out of Champions League contention by Swedish outfit Malmo on Tuesday, with van Dijk hinting the fixture may have been his last for the Hoops.

"There is interest but right now just after the game, it's so difficult to talk about it," the Dutchman said.

"If this is my last game then it's the last way I'd want to leave Celtic."
