Southampton defender Jannik Verstergaard admits that he should be scoring more goals.

The towering centre-back found the back of the net during the Saints' 1-1 draw with Manchester United at the weekend.

But he admits that he should be helping out his side on the attacking front more often.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Vestergaard said: "It was very nice [to score].

"It's been a long time and I am happy to finally get a goal.

"It's not only something I wish I could do, but it's also something I need to do.

"It's something I have done in my career, so it's been very disappointing so far.

"I should have more chances in dangerous areas.

"But I can take the positives from scoring against Manchester United and, hopefully, I can take the confidence from it.

"It gives me the feeling that I know how to do it again and maybe that will give me the extra per cent when I get into the box."
