Boss Alan Pardew believes Southampton could be challenging in the Premier League within two years because "the roots are right" at the club. The Saints are eighth in their first season in League One but would be in the automatic promotion shake-up had they not suffered a 10-point deduction.

"We've seen over the years teams can jump through two divisions in two years if the roots are right," he told the Southern Daily Echo.
