Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino admits Jack Stephens missed defeat to Manchester United due to injury.

Pellegrino reported that the centre half had been feeling a groin injury in training and so he opted to rest Stephens with Jeremy Pied amongst the subs for the first time this season.

He said: “I decide to put Jeremy Pied on the bench because he (Stephens) said he was this week a little bit with some issues with his groin and just for this reason."

United won 1-0 on the day at St Mary's.
