South Africa enjoy confidence booster over Guatemala

World Cup hosts South Africa have enjoyed a confidence boosting 5-0 win over Guatemala in Polokwane.

Bafana Bafana scored twice in the first half and three times in the second to demolish the 115th ranked team in the world and give the home team more confidence ahead of the much-anticipated tournament which kicks off in about a week-and-a-half.

South Africa: 5 (Katlego Mphela (p) 12', (p) 56', Reneilwe Letsholonyane (25'), Surprise Moriri (48'), Bernard Parker (82') Guatemala: 0 Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium - Polokwane, South Africa Crowd: 45,000

In captain Aaron Mokoena's 100th appearance for the national team, the South Africans celebrated thanks to a double from Katlego Mphela who converted twice from the penalty spot and singles to fringe player Reneilwe Letsholonyane, midfielder Surprise Moriri and promising striker Bernard Parker.

The performance will make coach Parreira's final squad decision a very tough one with the 17 players who took part in the match all putting their cases forward.

The win will give South African fans hope ahead of their opening group stage game against Mexico in Johannesburg on June 11 which officially kicks off the 2010 tournament.
