Sousa urges Basel to 'create a story' against Liverpool

FC Basel manager Paulo Sousa is hoping his side can extend their home winning streak over English Premier League clubs this week.

The Swiss giants host Liverpool at St Jakob-Park on Wednesday night and Sousa is looking to repeat the victories over Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea over the past three seasons of European action.

The Portuguese tactician is hoping his current Basel outfit can write a little piece of their own history by taking it right up to Brendan Rodgers' side who recruited heavily in the off-season.

"We could create a story tomorrow which will be remembered in the future," said Sousa.

"As a coach all the games are a real test. It is a fantastic moment for us, myself and the players and our club to enjoy but also to compete as we are looking to get results."

Of Rodgers and Liverpool, Sousa added: "It is always a pleasure to compete against a great coach and a great man and special to compete at this level together.

"It is always difficult to compete at this level with a club with a manager like Rodgers, who is already into the third year of a process and is integrating 170 million (euro-worth) of players.

"We will create fantastic opportunities against Rodgers and his players and we are looking to win the match."
