Souness warns Howe: Newcastle job toughest I ever had

Former Newcastle boss Graeme Souness says Eddie Howe will be experiencing a culture shock as Magpies manager.

Newcastle remain in the dropzone after Sunday's 4-0 thrashing at Leicester City.

Souness said, "This is another level. It's gone from 'Sleepy town' Bournemouth to a hothouse in Newcastle. I had very big jobs on anyone's level, you know Liverpool, Galatasaray, Benfica. Big clubs.

"But I found Newcastle the most difficult job I ever had. I'm glad you said it. At a football club everyone is rowing in the same direction. It's super difficult to be successful.

"But, when you go to a club that undermine you at every turn it's difficult. You ask yourself a question, it's been 52 years, a club the size of Newcastle - why haven't they won anything since the 1969 Fairs Cup.

"That's a long time when you look at the type of clubs that have won trophies in that time - Why has Newcastle continually struggled?

"Under some great managers over that period of time. Every one of them have struggled. So, good luck Eddie, it's not an easy job managing Newcastle.

"Even if he gets a load of money, because make no mistake ,when you start spending money that's when the pressure really comes on. The expectation level goes through the roof."
