Son nets as Leverkusen kick off season with comfortable victory

Heung-Min Son was on target as Bayer Leverkusen started their 2013/14 Bundesliga campaign with a 3-1 home win over SC Freiburg on the weekend.

The South Korean attacker was in fine form for his new club, following his summer move from Hamburg, skipping past defenders at will in the first half before getting his name on the scoresheet in the second.

Last season's Bundesliga Golden Boot winner Stefan Kiessling fired Leverkusen into the lead in the 22nd minute before Mike Hanke levelled five minutes before the break.

Son then edged the home side ahead when he simply slotted home a Sidney Sam pass in the 47th minute for his first goal for the club before Kiessling set up Sam for a third five minutes later.

The victory allowed Sami Hyypia's Leverkusen to take third position on the table ahead of their next fixture which is a trip to VfB Stuttgart, following their 3-2 loss at Mainz.

Son's fellow summer signing, Australian international Robbie Kruse, was an unused sub at the BayArena.
