Solano: Why I split from Big Sam's Newcastle

Nobby Solano has lifted the lid on leaving Newcastle United when West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce was in charge.

Solano wrote in the Evening Chronicle: "I had a feeling I wouldn't be suited to his style and that much was obvious during a conversation I had with him.

"I went to see Sam during pre-season training in 2007 during a pre-season training camp in Austria. The question from me was 'Will I fit into your plans?'

"He said that he wanted to bring in his own players and could not guarantee anything so I moved on to West Ham.

"It was a big message for me.

"I knew that he would play the ball long and that the midfielders would spend a lot of time battling for the second ball.

"As we all know, Newcastle fans prefer to watch a more attractive style of play and it didn't work out.

"I notice, though, that West Ham have changed the way they play this season."
