Socceroos World Cup review

The Australian national team essentially failed at this year’s World Cup in South Africa.

A disappointing 4-0 loss against Germany in their Group D opener in Durban on June 13 got things off to a disastrous start and although they saved face with a 1-1 draw with Ghana in Rustenburg on June 19 and a superb 2-1 win over Serbia in Nelspruit on June 24, Pim Verbeek’s team did not achieve what they set out to.

Nor did they emulate the class of 2006 who took the world by storm by progressing to the Round of 16 only to be cruelly beaten by eventual champions Italy.

But the 2010 version of the Socceroos deserve their own report card despite not reaching the heights many of us expected them to.

Over the three matches tribalfootball.com rated the Australian players performances out of 10 and have now put the totals together to rate them out of 30. Along with that, we have provided a quick overview of general stats from the group stage matches.
