Smith unhappy with Leicester players after Man City defeat

Leicester City boss Dean Smith was unhappy with his players' commitment during defeat at Manchester City.

John Stones and an Erling Haaland double had City 3-0 ahead before Kelechi Iheanacho pulled one back for the visitors.

Smith later said, "I thought our second-half performance was better. There was a bit of us being a little bit more committed and a bit of them putting the brakes on as well. But I was pleased with it and I thought we created some big moments and some big chances in the second half.

"You do [fear the worst] when you give them a lead of 1-0 after 10 minutes and 3-0 after 20 minutes. But if you look at the goals in isolation, John Stones has put one in from 20 yards with his left foot into the top corner, then a handball [for the penalty] and I'm not sure where he had to put his hand. All of a sudden we're 2-0 down.

"Yes you're fearful but I thought the lads certainly showed a lot of character in the second half.

"I've seen teams come and have a go at Manchester City and get beat 3-0 like Bayern Munich did. What we needed to do was stay in the game. We had those incidents that led to goals.

"I thought our defence was aggressive in the second-half, we put a lot more pressure on them.

"There's lots we can take. I'm obviously disappointed but a two-goal deficit to the best team in the world isn't the end of the world.

"Our season won't be defined here, we have a run of games where we have to win matches.

"I'm not setting any points targets, we just have to win each game. There's games coming up which are winnable, this season won't be defined by Manchester City."
