Simpson still learning his trade with Newcastle

Newcastle defender Danny Simpson is still learning in his trade in his first full season in the Premier League. The 24-year-old full-back started his career with Manchester United, and went in loan spells to Sunderland, Ipswich, Blackburn and St James' Park before winning a permanent move to Tyneside in January last year.

Simpson said: "I am young still, it's my first full season in the Premier League. I have had little tastes of it over the years, but this is my first full campaign.

"The players we have got here - Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton, Alan Smith - they are helping all the young lads out, not just me.

"The new manager has come in and he has watched all the lads, he has reviewed the situation.

"He's had a chat and said what he thinks I can improve on, and that's what I am going to try to do and keep improving for Newcastle."
