Simpson set for crunch Leicester talks after assault conviction

Leicester City defender Danny Simpson is expected to meet club officials on Friday for the first time since his conviction for choking his ex-girlfriend Stephanie Ward.

It is understood that manager Nigel Pearson and Foxes officials will have crunch talks with Simpson when he reports back for training ahead of the final league fixture of the season against QPR on Sunday.

The 28-year old defender was found guilty of assault following a trial on Wednesday.

A police officer reportedly saw him with both hands around Ward's throat after she had dialled 999 during a drunken ruckus in December. Later Ward, also the mother of Simpson's child, excused the defender of any wrongdoing.

Simpson, who signed for the Foxes last summer, now faces the prospect of prison when he is sentenced next month.
