Simpson injury news better than expected for West Brom

The hamstring injury of on-loan West Brom striker Jay Simpson is not as bad as first feared.

The Arsenal youngster has been impressive since joining the Baggies but they will possibly be without his services for this weekend's clash with Newcastle United at The Hawthorns.

"Jay Simpson's scan suggests he's got a grade one hamstring," boss Tony Mowbray told the club's official website.

"It's not even a strain. It's just a few fibres, a fatigue injury.

"We wouldn't want that to turn into a tear and him be out for six weeks.

"We'll assess that and decide what we're going to do with him."
