Central Coast Mariners striker Matt Simon is eager to get a start with the Socceroos this Thursday against Kuwait in Canberra.

Simon believes that with Danny Allsopp ruled out of the match, he might be the man for the job.

"It's unfortunate for Danny but I'll be working hard this week to try and grab that starting spot now," said Simon.

"If you get that starting spot you're obviously going to give it your all and hopefully everything goes well ... I'm definitely going to grab the opportunity if I get it."
