Mikael Silvestre has returned to Manchester United.

The Manchester Evening News says Silvestre trained with the Reds on Monday morning.

The 35-year-old Frenchman, who spent nine years with United between 1999 and 2008, before moving to Arsenal.

While he is not expected to be drafted in to help ease the club's defensive crisis, nothing can be ruled out.

Silvestre was released by Bundesliga club Werder Bremen in the summer.
