Shorey welcomes Hodgson appointment at West Brom

Nicky Shorey has welcomed Roy Hodgson's appointment at West Bromwich Albion.

The England left-back is hoping he can pin down a regular first-team place under the man who last season took him to Craven Cottage on loan in his time as Fulham boss.

Shorey told the WBA website: "The new boss brings a wealth of experience.

"He will get us more organised and a bit more solid as a team, which is probably what we need at the moment.

"We play good stuff and create chances and on Saturday we scored some, but we just need to be a bit more solid and a bit more defensively-minded when the game needs it.

"It's always disappointing when a manager gets the sack because no-one wants to see that.

"But the lads are looking forward to a new challenge and hopefully he can come in and give us the help we need.

"I've got a lot of respect for the new manager. I enjoyed my time at Fulham, it was a great time for me to get away from Villa as well. He is very calm, he knows the game inside out and whenever he says something you listen, so he doesn't need to scream and shout all the time.

"He is a very good manager."
