Sherwood admits considering Spurs coaching role

Tim Sherwood admits he is weighing up a coaching return to Tottenham.

Sherwood, 39, made 93 appearances in a four-year spell between 1999 and 2003 at White Hart Lane.

During that time he picked up a runners-up medal in the 2002 League Cup and admitted Spurs would be an ideal destination if he were to ditch his current job as a media pundit and go back into football.

"It has been very flattering to be linked with the club," Sherwood told BBC Radio Five Live.

"If I had ever wanted to get back into football the club I would choose would be Tottenham and the manager I would work for would be Harry Redknapp.

"I spoke to Harry yesterday and will do again tomorrow. I have to make my mind up whether or not it is the right time to get back into football.

"It's a great opportunity and I bet there's a queue a mile long to take the job.

"I've talked to my father and he told me I had nothing to think about.

"What it boils down to is if I want to get back into football again and dedicate 100 per cent of my time to the game and I have to make that decision because a club like Tottenham and a manager like Harry Redknapp demands that and you wouldn't expect it any other way."

Sherwood praised Redknapp's appointment but warned the former Southampton manager that turning Spurs' fortunes around would be no easy task.

"I think his appointment has been very well received by the Tottenham fans," said Sherwood.

"They went down the route of foreign managers. Juande Ramos didn't work out and if you asked them who they wanted to replace him then Harry would be at the top of the list.

"It's going to take time though. Two points from eight games is a disastrous start and it won't be easy but they have the right man for the job, that's for sure.

"Let's be realistic, the team's aim should be to stay in the division this year and avoid relegation. Not many teams survive with two points after eight games."
