Sheffield Wednesday boss Bruce laughs off Newcastle rumours

Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce insists he's not had any contact with Newcastle United.

Bruce is the bookies' favourite to succeed Rafael Benitez as manager on Tyneside, despite previously managing the Magpies' fierce rivals Sunderland.

But Bruce, who oversaw the Owls' 2-0 win over Shrewsbury in a training game, cooled claims he could take over at St James' Park.

He told the Sheffield Star: "It's news to me. God only knows what happened on Tuesday afternoon. There seemed to be an upsurge [in the betting] from somewhere.

"John Terry was favourite yesterday. It was Mikel Arteta the day before, so who knows? As far as I am concerned, I am here, I am going home tomorrow and looking forward to walking the dog."
