Several Sheffield United players are chasing compo from West Ham United.
The Sun says United players are after £5million in compensation from West Ham for being relegated in 2006.
A group of 15 Blades have decided to take action after meeting with top sports lawyer Chris Farnell and the PFA.
The players - including Keith Gillespie, Chris Morgan and Paddy Kenny - believe the figure of around £330,000 each represents the money they each lost in a season outside the Premier League when the Hammers illegally fielded Carlos Tevez.
A PFA spokesman said: "A number of players went to see Chris Farnell.
"It is a case of establishing which route they take - whether they sue West Ham or West Ham and the Premier League."
