Sheffield United showing interest in ex-Southampton, Everton, Stoke striker Beattie

Sheffield United have confirmed they are interested in bringing James Beattie back to the club.

The 33-year old striker is a free agent after he was released by Rangers last season and could be back on his way to Bramall Lane after the Blades sold him to Stoke City back in 2009.

"We'd like to bring him on board obviously. There's been a lot of talk about him walking into the team straight away, but if you ask James himself he'd admit he's nowhere near the fitness levels we'd expect," United boss Danny Wilson told the club's official website.

"The last thing we want is to pitch him in because people want him in and James getting injured. That's foolish.

"But in the next few weeks we'd like to get him on board, get him to a level of fitness and introduce him. That would be the perfect scenario so we'll have to wait and see.

"James has bought into it. He knows he has to get fit and I know he wants to pick up where he left off here."
