Sevilla coach Sampaoli happy as PSV defeat still secures Europa League progress

Sevilla coach Jorge Sampaoli was delighted with his players despite defeat at PSV Eindhoven.

PSV won 2-0, but Sevilla progress to the Europa League round of 16 3-2 on aggregate.

Sampaoli said: "It was a great game from the team but we didn't take the chances we had considering the control we had.

"From one long ball, with one aerial touch, they got a goal when no one expected it – not even their own fans thought PSV could score. And then they threw balls and a lot of bodies into the box.

"Fernando and Telles played as centre-backs [but] not even they expected that ending. PSV's goal together plus our fatigue gave them some hope but until that first goal we'd been the better team by far.

"That goal gave them a bit of hope which fortunately for us they couldn't fulfil."
