Sevilla chief Monchi encouraged by Franco Vazquez performance

Sevilla chief Monchi is confident they will shake off their UEFA Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid.

As well as presenting new Argentine signing Gabriel Mercado on Thursday, the director discussed the Super Cup loss and what conclusions he took away from the match.

"The loss to Real Madrid was tough," he admitted. "We cannot be content with having a title within our grasp and then losing it, just like last year."

Overall, however, the 47-year-old was pleased with the performance in Jorge Sampaoli's first competitive match in charge.

"The team stayed true to what the coach said in the build-up," Monchi said.

"I'm happy with the look of the team and have been pleasantly surprised at our willingness to take charge of matches, so the conclusions from Tuesday are more positive than negative."

New arrival Franco Vazquez gave plenty to talk about despite his nickname 'Mudo' meaning mute, and he scored and held up the ball well during the defeat.

"I know Franco [Vazquez] really well and I know what he can do for us.

"He gave off a good first impression, but we must be patient and calm with him."
