Scunthorpe caretaker boss earns chairman vote of confidence

Scunthorpe chairman Steve Wharton had no hesitation in appointing Ian Baraclough as caretaker boss following Nigel Adkins' defection to Southampton. The 39 year old first-team coach has been placed in temporary charge but is already being viewed as a permanent successor to Adkins.

Wharton said: "Ian is someone who has been at this club for the past six years and is someone I first admired as a player.

"He is someone I have always thought would be the next manager of this club and fortunately the board have supported me on that.

"We have made the appointment temporary at first to be fair to Ian. Suddenly he has a lot of responsibility and I want to be sure he is happy doing that."
