Scotland boss Strachan thrilled with form of Stoke's Adam

Charlie Adam's recent form for Stoke City has Scotland manager Gordon Strachan excited.

The 27-year old former Blackpool and Liverpool midfielder has been impressive under Mark Hughes in the early stages of the Premier League season and Strachan believes that will rub off on his international play when the Scots host Croatia in their final World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

"It's great Charlie is now getting a game. That's the most important thing," said Strachan.

"When I first took over he wasn't getting games.

"Charlie is someone who needs to be involved and play a lot.

"There are some who are a wee bit different.

"He is an asset and can do both midfield roles - he can sit in front of the back four and get up the pitch to support the strikers.

"His game was at its best when he was at Blackpool.

"One minute he was taking it off the back four, the next minute he was breaking forward.

"I don't think you can say: 'Right, you're sitting there or you're playing up there.' He has to do both."
