Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has stated that Toni Kroos is the ideal player to replace Michael Carrick at Old Trafford.

Despite his advancing years, Carrick remains an integral part of the United side but the Red Devils will surely have to find a replacement for the 35-year-old sooner rather than later.

Replacing a player of Carrick's caliber will surely not prove to be an easy task and club legend Scholes has now suggested that Real Madrid's German star Kroos is one of the few players who will be able to fill in the void to be left by the veteran midfielder when he eventually departs Old Trafford.

"I think we might have to buy somebody [to replace Michael Carrick]," Scholes told Republik of Mancunia.

"A Toni Kroos, or somebody like that, who plays his position really well, knows his position, controls a game of football, doesn't stray too far from his position.

"I think Kroos would be ideal. Whether we can get him or not, I don't know, whether they want him, I don't know."
