Schmeichel secures Leicester victory over Newcastle

Leicester City have beaten Newcastle United on penalties in the Carabao Cup.

The match ended 1-1 after normal time thanks to goals from Yoshinori Muto and James Maddison.

Foxes keeper' Kasper Schmeichel saved two of Newcastle's four spot-kicks, allowing Jamie Vardy to fire his side into the third round, where they will play Luton Town.

Leicester assistant Chris Davies said after the win: "(It's) A good win for us. We knew there would be a dramatic end with penalties and we prepared for that yesterday.

"The game itself was how we expected. We felt we had control but couldn't penetrate an awful lot and there are still elements we want to improve on, but it's still good to go through."
