Schalke 04 are chasing AS Roma midfielder Julio Baptista.
The Brazil international is wanted by several clubs, but personal terms have proved a stumbling block.
"We need one or two reinforcements," said Schalke coach Magath, "we'll see what happens in the next ten days.
"We need more physicality in attack and especially if we're to live up to expectations we must raise the quality of our workforce."
