Schalke chief Heldt delighted with bargain deal for Man City defender Nastasic

Schalke have secured a deal for Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic on a free loan.

The Serb joins Schalke to the end of the season with the option to sign permanently for €9.5 million. While on a free loan, Schalke will cover his €1.2 million half-year salary.

"Matija has not long been back in training and is a very intelligent player who can find his rhythm quickly," said Schalke chief Horst Heldt.

"He has established himself at great clubs like Manchester City and Fiorentina. He will also stabilize our defense."

He continued: "With Matija we had long been clear. Late Sunday evening we reached an agreement with Manchester City. The contracts are not yet signed, but he only has to complete the medical check."
