Savage admits seeking Blackburn exit

Robbie Savage has admitted he is looking to secure a move away from Blackburn as soon as possible.

The Welshman is no longer a Blackburn regular after fighting his way back from injury and finding more competition for places in midfield.

"I went to see Mark Hughes when it started to become clear that my time at Rovers might be coming to an end and he was brilliant about it all, which is what I expected," Savage told the News of the World.

"I told him I needed to be playing every week and he knows me well enough to understand that I get myself in a right state if I'm not.

"This isn't a case of Rovers wanting me gone, it's me needing a new challenge." Derby and Sunderland are both interested in signing Savage, while he has also been linked with a switch to Wigan.

Savage insists he would relish the chance to take part in another relegation battle, but he is also open to other offers.

He explained: "I'm up for that sort of scrap. I did it at Birmingham and took on a similar role here.

"Rovers would like me to stay but I can't be a squad player when there are teams out there who want me involved in a relegation scrap or even a promotion battle because I can offer a lot in those circumstances.

"I don't know where I'll be going. What matters is that it happens as quickly as possible because the season is going by and I want to be involved."
